Pamela Hobbs: Digital Matte Artist

Pamela has worked at Jim Henson’s Film studio  in London before relocating back to California to work with Industrial Light and Magic for several years. She's now working at DreamWorks located in northern california.

Ms. Hobbs has served on the faculty of computer graphics departments at The School of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Design and The California College of Arts and Crafts.

"As a digital artist who challenges the boundaries between the medium and the audience Hobbs believes that the most important thing is to  communicate your message through hard work and process. I stress that a distinctive emotion should reach the viewer, not just an effect or a surface. In either traditional or digital art.”

“When I first saw Pam Hobbs' work in the early 90s, I was
impressed by the strong drawings and paintings. What struck me was confidence and consistency that Pam conveyed.

As software capabilities have improved, Pam's found ways to take advantage of them in her work. She continues to develop as an artist, it's her personality and style that I see growing, not just digital techniques.

As far as the rest of the world finally discovering how great Pam's work is, I can only say, "What took you so long?"”

"With a skilled stylist such as Pamela, the evidence of her hand is always present. And the quality of the line she produces is never mediated or diminished by the computer; only enhanced by it."
